The Best Leaders on the Road Say THANK YOU Constantly
It sounds simple, almost too simple. But on the road, gratitude carries weight. It sets the tone. It builds culture. It defines your reputation.
Think about a day on tour:
It’s 6am and the local crew is unloading the trucks in the dark, pushing cases up ramps before the sun is even up. Thank them.
Catering is sweating in a hot kitchen, serving three meals a day to hundreds of people who are tired, picky, and on the clock. Thank them.
Security checks your laminate when you’re rushing backstage- not to slow you down, but to keep the entire tour safe. Thank them.
The bus driver pulled an all-nighter to get you from city to city while you slept. Thank them.
The festival staff handed you clean towels after a muddy load-out. Thank them.
The flight attendant smiled at you even when the flight was delayed. Thank them.
And don’t forget the people standing shoulder to shoulder with you- your teammates, grinding through the same long day. Thank them too.
Gratitude doesn’t slow the work down. It doesn’t make you soft.
Gratitude is not weakness. It’s leadership.
You can never say “thank you” too much. You can never be too grateful.
So here’s my challenge: today, no matter what gig you’re on, find three people you can thank. Out loud. With intention.
It might not change the show. But it will change the people who make it happen.
What’s the most meaningful ‘thank you’ you’ve received (or given) on tour?
